How this list was compiled: Our own questions, written to the competency list of the Job Ready Credential Blueprint for Forest Products and Processing (code 3037, version 01, copyright 2009) that NOCTI publishes at https://www.nocti.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/JRForestProds3037.pdf , read 2026-10-14 and again 2026-10-15: a written assessment of 189 questions in 3 hours over twelve areas (Safety 8%; Logging, Harvesting 10%; Tree Identification 3%; Sawmill Operation 12%; Diesels and Hydraulics 7%; Chain Saws 8%; Silviculture and Forest Management 9%; Forest Ecology and Protection 14%; Surveying 8%; Timber Cruising 9%; Wildlife 6%; Business Management and Employability Skills 6%), plus a performance assessment of seven jobs. This bank holds 50 in those proportions. NOCTI also posts a pilot blueprint, code 3137, marked subject to change (139 questions over eight areas); this bank follows 3037. Every rule and definition was read on 2026-10-14 and again on 2026-10-15 on the public page named under its question: the OSHA logging operations standard, 29 CFR 1910.266, on osha.gov, and Wikipedia. Every length, area and count is made up for the drill, and each computed answer is arithmetic that was worked twice. Licence: Questions, choices and explanations are original work of this site.

How it works

This free NOCTI Forest Products and Processing practice test has 50 questions of our own, sorted by the twelve areas of the Job Ready blueprint, code 3037. It is unofficial and not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by NOCTI.

Twelve areas, in the blueprint's shares

Forest Ecology and Protection is 14% of the written assessment, Sawmill Operation 12% and Logging, Harvesting 10%. Silviculture and Timber Cruising are 9% each, Safety, Chain Saws and Surveying 8% each, Diesels and Hydraulics 7%, Wildlife and Business 6% each and Tree Identification 3%.

Timed at the real pace

Fifty questions in 48 minutes matches the pace of the written assessment. The blueprint gives no pass mark, so a round ends in a score.

What stays in the woods

The seven performance jobs are not practiced here: felling a tree, naming leaf, bud and bark specimens, grading lumber, scaling logs, sharpening a chain saw, calculating acreage and analyzing a plot.

  • Logging answers cite 29 CFR 1910.266 by paragraph, such as (d)(6)(ii) for two tree lengths between work areas.
  • A cord is 128 cubic feet of stacked wood, and a board foot is 144 cubic inches.
  • Ten square chains make one acre, so chains times chains, divided by ten, gives acres.

Questions and answers

How many questions are on the NOCTI Forest Products and Processing test?

The blueprint lists 189 written questions with an administration time of 3 hours, given in one, two or three sessions. The seven performance jobs take another 2 hours and 50 minutes.

Is this a NOCTI forestry products and processing practice test?

Yes. NOCTI's title for its forestry assessment is Forest Products and Processing, code 3037. The questions were written for this site and are not NOCTI's.

Is there a newer Forest Products and Processing blueprint?

NOCTI also posts a pilot blueprint, code 3137, marked as subject to change: 139 questions in 2 hours and 30 minutes over eight areas, the largest being Forest Ecology, Silviculture, and Forest Management at 23%. This page follows 3037.

Where is the NOCTI Forest Products and Processing blueprint?

On nocti.org/credentials/blueprints, as a free PDF with the competencies, the share of each area and ten sample questions. None of the samples is used or reworded on this page.
