How this list was compiled: Our own questions, written to the exam framework of TExES Mathematics/Science 4–8 (114) in Section 3 of the preparation manual on the Texas Educator Certification Examination Program website, https://www.tx.nesinc.com/Content/StudyGuide/TX_SG_obj_114.htm (copyright Texas Education Agency), read 2026-10-15: 120 selected-response questions in eleven domains, Number Concepts about 8%, Patterns and Algebra 11%, Geometry and Measurement 11%, Probability and Statistics 8%, Mathematical Processes and Perspectives 5%, Mathematical Learning, Instruction and Assessment 8%, Scientific Inquiry and Processes 11%, Physical Science 11%, Life Science 11%, Earth and Space Science 11%, and Science Learning, Instruction and Assessment 6%. This bank holds 50 in those shares: 4, 5, 6, 4, 3, 4, 5, 6, 5, 5 and 3. Every number in a mathematics question is made up for the question, and each computed answer was worked out a second time (2026-10-15). Thirty-two questions name the standard they practice in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, 19 Texas Administrative Code Chapters 111 and 112 (Legal Information Institute copies). The other eighteen rest on pages of OSHA, NIST, the U.S. Geological Survey, NOAA, the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the National Human Genome Research Institute, UC Berkeley's Understanding Evolution and Wikipedia, named and linked under each question. Every page was opened 2026-10-15. Licence: Questions, choices and explanations are original work of this site.
How it works
A free TExES Math/Science 4-8 practice test: 50 questions written for this site across the eleven domains of exam 114. Unofficial, and not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by the Texas Education Agency or Pearson.
Read the full guide
Eleven domains, two subjects
Six mathematics domains come first: Number Concepts 8%, Patterns and Algebra 11%, Geometry and Measurement 11%, Probability and Statistics 8%, Mathematical Processes 5% and mathematics teaching 8%. Five science domains follow: inquiry, physical science, life science, and Earth and space science at 11% each, and science teaching 6%.
Length and timing
The exam has 120 selected-response questions and 4 hours 45 minutes of testing time inside a 5-hour appointment. A timed run of 50 questions in 119 minutes keeps that pace.
Sources
Thirty-two answers cite a Texas standard for Grades 6 to 8 or Algebra I. Science facts were checked at the U.S. Geological Survey, NOAA, NIST and OSHA.
The real exam supplies a periodic table, a definitions and formulas page and an on-screen scientific calculator.
Teaching questions lean on the Texas standards: know which grade meets a topic, such as the Pythagorean theorem in Grade 8.
Questions and answers
Where is the TExES 114 study guide?
The Texas Educator Certification Examination Program posts a free preparation manual for Mathematics/Science 4–8 (114). Its Section 3 lists the eleven domains and all 42 competencies, and each answer on this page names the competency it was written to.
Is this a real TExES Mathematics & Science 4-8 114 practice test?
It is real practice, not the real exam. Every question was written for this site from one competency and one public source. Nothing comes from the exam or from the sample questions in the manual.
Is exam 114 the same as Mathematics 4-8 and Science 4-8 together?
Its domains carry the same names: the first six are those of Mathematics 4–8 (115) and the last five those of Science 4–8 (116). Exam 114 asks 120 questions on all eleven in one sitting.
What score passes the TExES 114?
240 on a scaled score, by the exam's page. The exam may carry unscored questions and the scale is not a percent, so this page gives a count of right answers and no pass or fail.
