Four Subject Exams, 200 questions

English Language Arts and Reading (806) has 74 questions, and Mathematics (807), Social Studies (808) and Science (809) have 42 each.

Each subject has its own clock

Reading gets 1 hour 55 minutes, Mathematics 1 hour 5 minutes, and Social Studies and Science 50 minutes each. Exam mode keeps that pace: 24 reading questions in 37 minutes, and 14 in 22, 17 and 17.

Written to the Texas standards

Most questions cite the paragraph of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills they rest on. Texas history follows the Grade 7 course, and science facts come from federal agency pages.

  • Miss one Subject Exam and you may retake that one alone. Miss two or more and the whole exam is retaken, by the manual's overview.
  • Candidates for this certificate must also take Science of Teaching Reading (293), the exam's page says. That exam is not practiced here.
  • The real Mathematics Subject Exam shows a formulas page and a scientific calculator on screen, and Science shows a periodic table.
