How it works
Fifty questions of our own for the NOCTI Mechatronics test, sorted by the seven areas of the Job Ready blueprint for Mechatronics-Level 1, code 2040. This free practice test is unofficial and not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by NOCTI.

Seven areas, measurement first
Instrumentation and Measurement is 21% of the written assessment, Electrical 18% and Mechanical 16%. Safety is 15%, Computer and Control Systems 13%, Hydraulic and Pneumatic Systems 12% and Communication 5%.
43 minutes for 50
That is the pace of the real written assessment. A timed round ends in a score and no verdict.
A written test only
Blueprint 2040 lists a written assessment and no performance jobs. Its electrical safety items name the National Electrical Code and NFPA 70E, which are privately published, so the safety questions here come from the public OSHA standards.
- An ammeter goes in series with the load. A voltmeter goes in parallel, across it.
- Belt and gear speeds: driver speed times driver size, divided by driven size. The larger wheel turns slower.
- Pressure is force divided by area: pounds over square inches gives psi.
Questions and answers
How many questions are on the NOCTI Mechatronics test?
The Job Ready blueprint for Mechatronics-Level 1, code 2040, lists 209 written questions in 3 hours, given in one, two or three sessions.
What is on the NOCTI Mechatronics test?
Lockout, guarding, confined spaces and safety data sheets; work instructions and logs; meters, torque wrenches, gauges, sensors and transducers; circuits, switches, resistor bands and power supplies; materials, bearings, gears, belts and lubrication; valves, cylinders and Pascal's law; and networks, PLCs, truth tables and CAD.
What score passes the NOCTI Mechatronics test?
No passing score is printed in the Mechatronics-Level 1 blueprint, only the question count, the time and each area's share. Your school or program decides how the result is used.
Where is the NOCTI Mechatronics blueprint?
NOCTI posts it free at nocti.org/credentials/blueprints under Mechatronics-Level 1: a PDF with the competencies, the weight of each area and ten sample questions. None of those samples is used or reworded here.
