How it works
Unofficial HSPT math practice, on screen or printed: 80 questions of our own, 64 for Mathematics, as on the real subtest, and 16 for Quantitative Skills. Not affiliated with or endorsed by Scholastic Testing Service, the publisher of the High School Placement Test.

Split the way the score profile splits it
The manual's sample score profile counts 29 Mathematics questions on numbers and numeration, 7 on measurements, 12 on geometry, 7 on algebra and 9 on statistics and probability. The 64 here are split the same way.
Two reasoning questions a round
Each round of ten ends with two from Quantitative Skills: a number series, a number manipulation or a comparison of three quantities.
Our own questions
None comes from an HSPT, which the publisher calls a secure test. Every answer was worked out a second time, and each Mathematics question names the school standard its skill falls under.
- Print the question sheet puts 20 of these on paper. Save as PDF in the print window keeps the file.
Questions and answers
What math is on the HSPT?
The manual says the Mathematics subtest tests computation and problem solving, along with knowledge of concepts in numbers and numeration, measurements, geometry, algebra and statistics. It calls these "elements of a high school curriculum."
How many math questions are on the HSPT?
The Mathematics subtest has 64 questions and the Quantitative Skills subtest has 52, according to the publisher's manual. Together that is 116 of the 298 questions on the test.
Can you use a calculator on the HSPT math section?
No. The manual says that calculators may not be used under standardized conditions on Mathematics or on Quantitative Skills. The publisher's advice is to work problems out on scratch paper or in the test booklet.
What is the difference between quantitative skills and mathematics on the HSPT?
Mathematics is a basic skills subtest: it tests what has been learned. Quantitative Skills is a cognitive skills subtest: it tests reasoning with numbers, and it joins Verbal Skills in the Total Cognitive Skills score.
Is there algebra on the HSPT?
Yes, a little. The manual lists algebra among the areas of the Mathematics subtest, and its sample score profile shows 7 of the 64 questions under algebra: 5 on equality and inequality, 2 on functions and coordinates.
