The three testlets
Knowledge of Learners and Foundations of School Counseling (301) has about 30 questions, The Comprehensive School Counseling Program (302) about 40, and Roles and Responsibilities of the School Counseling Profession (303) about 30. This bank holds 12, 16 and 12.
Where the answers come from
18 of the 40 answers quote the ASCA Ethical Standards for School Counselors, by section, or two of ASCA's own pages. The others rest on named theories, federal laws and the terms of college and career planning.
Clock and exam mode
The real clocks are 45, 60 and 45 minutes. Exam mode here gives 60 minutes for 40 questions, the same minute and a half each.
- The framework names its second testlet for the comprehensive program, 40% of the score: know the model's four components and how a program uses data.
Questions and answers
Is there a GACE study guide for school counseling?
Yes: the GACE website has a study guide for School Counseling, test 722, organized by the same three testlets as the questions here. None of these questions is taken or reworded from its sample questions.
How many questions are on the GACE school counseling test?
It has 100 selected-response questions in three testlets. The clocks total 2 hours 30 minutes, and each testing session adds 15 minutes for a tutorial and a nondisclosure agreement.
What is a passing score on the GACE school counseling test?
The GACE site asks for 220 total cumulative points or higher and for the floor, a minimum score, on each testlet. This page gives a number right, never a pass or a fail.
Does the GACE school counseling test cover ethics and law?
Yes. The third testlet has an objective on what a school counselor's roles are and on the legal and ethical standards of practice. Questions on that testlet here cite the ASCA Ethical Standards, FERPA, IDEA and Section 504.
