How this list was compiled: Our own questions, written to the five sections of the Certified Six Sigma Yellow Belt Body of Knowledge (2022) that ASQ publishes (https://www.asq.org/cert/resource/pdf/certification/cssyb-cert-insert.pdf, linked from https://asq.org/cert/six-sigma-yellow-belt). Facts were read in that outline, in the ASQ Quality Glossary and Quality Resources pages (asq.org/quality-resources) and in the NIST/SEMATECH e-Handbook of Statistical Methods (itl.nist.gov/div898/handbook), all on 2026-10-07. Each question names the section, entry or page it was written from. Licence: Own work. Every question, answer choice and explanation was written for this site from the public sources named on it. Nothing is taken from the exam, from its owner's question bank, study guide, handbook or courses, or from another practice test.

How it works

This Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt practice test follows the body of knowledge ASQ publishes for its Yellow Belt exam. It is unofficial and not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by ASQ (the American Society for Quality).

Read the full guide

The same split as the exam

The outline gives Six Sigma Fundamentals 20 questions, Define 14, Measure 15, Analyze 17, and Improve and Control 14. This bank holds the same counts, so exam mode asks all 80 in 2 hours 18 minutes, the time allowed on computer.

What a Yellow Belt is asked

Most topics are tested at the level the outline calls "understand": the roles, the phases, what each tool is for. A smaller group is "apply": the quality tools, basic statistics, defects per unit and DPMO, where a question hands you numbers.

  • ASQ's exam is open book, and you bring your own references. Practice finding a definition quickly as well as recalling it.
  • Keep the measurement pairs apart: repeatability is one person repeating, reproducibility is different people; accuracy is closeness to a reference, precision is spread.

Questions and answers

How many questions are on the Six Sigma Yellow Belt exam?

ASQ's computer-delivered exam has 90 multiple-choice questions, 80 scored and 10 unscored, with 2 hours 18 minutes of exam time. The paper version has 80 questions in two hours.

What score passes the Yellow Belt exam?

ASQ reports a scaled score and asks for 550 points of a possible 750. It does not give that as a number of questions right, so this page shows your count and no pass or fail.

Is this a free Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt practice test?

Yes. All 80 questions are free with no sign-up, and your answers stay in this browser. Nothing here comes from the exam, from ASQ's question bank or study guide, or from another practice site.

Does one Six Sigma Yellow Belt practice test fit every certifying body?

No. Several bodies certify Six Sigma belts, and there is no single standard body. This page follows ASQ's outline, dated 2022. For another body's exam, check its own outline, because the sections and the depth can differ.

Who can take the Yellow Belt exam?

ASQ sets no education or experience requirement. It describes the certification as aimed at people new to Six Sigma who have a small role, an interest, or a need for foundational knowledge.
