State of Nevada security guard exam study guide: the laws named

NAC 648.342 lists what the examination must cover: NRS 171.126, 199.310, 199.430, 207.200 and parts of chapter 648, three regulations, general rights of citizens, powers of arrest and limits of authority. The four topics here follow that list.

Newer law than the Board's guide

The Board's study guide quotes some sections as they read before amendment. The trespass warning in NRS 207.200 now reaches back 36 months, and NRS 648.1493 sets a minimum age of 18. These questions use the current text.

  • After a private arrest, deliver the person to a peace officer without unnecessary delay (NRS 171.178).
  • A work card registers you as an employee. Running a guard business takes a license (NRS 648.060).
  • An armed guard qualifies every 6 months in the designated months, or the card becomes invalid (NAC 648.350).

Questions and answers

What score do I need on the Nevada PILB work card exam?

100 percent. NAC 648.341 requires a private patrol licensee to see that an unlicensed person passes the Board's examination with a score of 100 percent before employment, or to verify an earlier pass within the preceding 60 months.

Who has to take the Nevada security guard exam?

The Board's work card page asks for the examination from applicants who will work for a private patrol officer licensee. The licensee gives the examination the Board provides and records its date in the Board's system within 5 business days (NAC 648.343).

Are these the real PILB test questions?

No. Every question here was written for this page from the statutes and regulations, and each names its section. None is taken or reworded from the Board's examination or study guide, and the Board did not write or review this page.

How long is a Nevada security guard work card good for?

A registration and its pocket card expire 5 years after the date of issue unless renewed (NRS 648.1493). A provisional registration expires 90 days after it is issued unless the Board's Executive Director extends it (NRS 648.1495).

Can a security guard in Nevada make an arrest?

As a private person. NRS 171.126 allows an arrest for a public offense committed or attempted in the person's presence and in two felony cases, and NRS 171.178 requires delivery to a peace officer without unnecessary delay. This is not legal advice.
